Ariel Helwani Intercedes After Oscar De La Hoya Lashes Out At Ryan Garcia Over Recent Team Comments Following Gervonta Davis Fight
MMA journalist and host of The MMA Hour Ariel Helwani has weighed in on Oscar De La Hoya’s recent criticism of his client Ryan Garcia.
‘KingRy’ suffered his first professional defeat against Gervonta Davis earlier this year. The result came via knockout following a brutal liver shot that crumped Garcia midway through the seventh round.
In the time since, Garcia has parted way with coach Joe Goossen and has been openly critical of his training team for the fight. Not only did ‘KingRy’ have a double agent in his camp leaking info to ‘Tank’, he was also ditched by his team for the post-fight press conference.
De La Hoya, who founded and runs Golden Boy Promotions, has made no bones about his thoughts on Garcia’s recent behaviour. Taking to Twitter, ‘Golden Boy’ highlighted the dangerous hydration clause ‘KingRy’ had agreed to for the Davis fight, as well as questionable advice from manager Lupe Valencia.
Wtf @RyanGarcia it’s been almost two months and youre still crying about the post presser? The blame for your loss is on YOU and your “advisor”Lupe. He is the only one who pushed you to accept that INSANE rehydration clause and THAT is the reason you lost. Man up. Own that.

De La Hoya then further doubled down on the issues surrounding the gruelling rehydration requirements.
Also, you keep saying “tanks team offered more support for you” blah blah blah. Bro they SET YOU UP TO LOSE with that rehydration clause and most importantly…AL HAYMON DIDNT EVEN SHOW UP THE ENTIRE WEEK. Actually, he NEVER shows up. How’s that for “support”???

“Keep This In House” – Ariel Helwani On The Oscar De La Hoya/Ryan Garcia Beef
Also taking to Twitter, Helwani responded to ‘Golden Boy’s initial tweet on the Garcia situation. Calling the beef a “horrible look” for De La Hoya considering ‘KingRy’ is arguably his biggest star right now, Helwani suggested the boxer-turned-promoter should try to keep such disputes private in future.
Horrible look to be publicly fighting with your biggest star.
Regardless of who’s wrong or right, keep this in house. https://t.co/OaXdCiVViq

Moving forwards, not only will Garcia be looking for a new coach, but he’ll also be competing in a heavier weight class. ‘The Flash’ is currently eyeing a move up to the super lightweight division. Considering the exhausting nature of the weight cut he went on for the ‘Tank’ fight, a move up in weight will likely do him some good.
