Brewers Sign Gary Sanchez to One-Year Deal, per Report

The Milwaukee Brewers and free-agent catcher Gary Sánchez have reportedly agreed on a one-year contract, according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Sánchez will reportedly earn $7 million in 2024, and the contract includes an option for the ‘25 season, too.

In 2023, Sánchez initially signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants, but opted out after not receiving a call up to the big leagues. He briefly signed with the New York Mets, but was placed on waivers shortly after and ultimately landed with the San Diego Padres for the rest of the season.

In 72 games with the Padres, Sánchez recorded a .792 OPS with 19 home runs and 46 RBIs while showing signs of improvement defensively, a facet of his game with which he struggled during his time with the New York Yankees at the beginning of his career.

The 31-year-old will likely split time behind the plate in Milwaukee alongside William Contreras and could also be used as the designated hitter.

In nine MLB seasons, Sánchez has not struggled to showcase his abilities as a power hitter, logging 173 home runs. He’s had some difficulty hitting for contact, however, posting a .225 career batting average.
