Colby Covington Gets Personal With Matt Brown After Retirement Comments: 'You Married Trailer Trash!'

Colby Covington didn’t hold back with his comments about Matt Brown after “The Immortal” suggested that Covington might retire if he loses his next fight.

Fans last saw “Chaos” in the Octagon when he took a unanimous decision over Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272. That victory was apparently enough for UFC CEO Dana White to name Covington as the next challenger for Leon Edwards’ welterweight title, which will mark the third time that the former interim titleholder has tried to become undisputed champion.

Longtime UFC veteran Brown recently proposed that Covington might retire if he were to lose to Edwards at UFC 296, and “Chaos” decided to respond to that suggestion during a recent interview with Submission Radio.

“Matt, don’t hate me. Hate the fact that you live in trailer trash and it’s the man in the mirror,” Covington said. “I made good decisions in my life, I’m at this point in my career ‘cause I had discipline, self control. Something you know nothing about because you’re a drug addict. Don’t be mad that I have all this money and I’ve done all these great things. You live in a trailer, you married trailer trash, I’m married to the game mother****er.”

Colby Covington Blames Matt Brown’s Comments On Knockout Loss 

Brown is coming off an incredible knockout win over Court McGee earlier this year, but Covington decided to attribute the 42-year-old’s recent comments to his 2020 loss to Miguel Baeza.

“He must have got hit in the head too hard from my friend Miguel Baeza. He knocked him senseless. I knew that Matt was dumb, but I didn’t know he was that dumb. But it just so happens my buddy Miguel Baeza knocked him into another dimension. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s saying this and that – dude, he needs to go get some more money from his next fight so he can spend it on drugs again.”

Covington has never shied away from trading verbal barbs with other fighters, and even if referring to Brown as a “drug addict” seems to be a largely distasteful remark it’s hardly the most inflammatory comment that the former interim welterweight champion has directed at someone.

A loss against Edwards would leave Covington with a 3-3 record dating back to his first welterweight title shot at UFC 245, and he won’t have an easy night of work in Las Vegas when he tries to become the first fighter to defeat “Rocky” since 2015.
