Conor McGregor & Alexander Volkanovski Intensify Fight Talks After Recent Twitter Back-And-Forth

UFC stars Conor McGregor and Alexander Volkanovski are ramping up speculation of a future fight.

McGregor is expected to make his UFC return by the end of the year against Michael Chandler. It’ll be his first fight since a doctor’s stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

McGregor’s featherweight days are likely behind him. After a win over José Aldo at UFC 194, he has spent stints at lightweight and welterweight.

Despite this, he’s open to a clash with Volkanovski, as he hinted during a recent interview with Megan Olivi. It didn’t take long for Volkanovski to respond to McGregor’s interest and he seemed to reciprocate intrigue.

In a recent tweet, Volkanovski responded to McGregor’s comments by stoking the flames of a potential fight.

“Let’s do it at lightweight,” Volkanovski pitched.

McGregor then responded by questioning Volkanovski’s pound-for-pound status.

“Lol. Afraid?” McGregor responded. “The ufc p4p number 1 (ye right) needs weighing scales and specific divisions to compete against me. So who’s really who and what’s what? The bmf title, the baddest jackasses in the sauna title. Little bums. Little one division, never champion bums! Nothin bad about ya’s!”

“Anytime. Anywhere. Any weight!” Volkanovski replied.

McGregor then questioned Volkanovski’s pitch of a lightweight fight.

“Then why ask for 155? Also, that is my saying,” McGregor hit back.

Volkanovski closed the show by supporting his ‘any time, any weight’ claim.

Yeah you say it, but I did it. I’ve fought at Middleweight, Welterweight, lightweight and Featherweight. https://t.co/VYSmGxfHaS

“Yeah you say it, but I did it,” Volkanovski exclaimed. “I’ve fought at Middleweight, Welterweight, lightweight and Featherweight.”

First things first for Volkanovski, who will face Yair Rodríguez in the UFC 290 headliner. He fell short against Islam Makhachev in his last fight for the lightweight title at UFC 284.

As for McGregor, he’s looking to get his UFC career back on track after losses in three of his last four fights. He suffered back-to-back defeats to Poirier before a long recovery from his leg break.

Tensions between McGregor and Volkanovski are on the rise, and so is the chance that we see the two UFC stars clash at some point in their careers.
