Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn thinks Jake Paul didn’t take a step in the right direction in his most recent win over Nate Diaz.
Paul defeated Diaz by unanimous decision to get back in the win column after suffering his first professional loss. Earlier this year, Paul suffered the first loss of his boxing career to Tommy Fury but wasted no time in returning to the ring and getting back on track.
Paul vs. Diaz was a back-and-forth war from start to finish, but Paul won the fight with more volume and a knockdown early on. He proved he can last for a 10-round fight, the first of his career, and that he can bounce back from a setback.
Hearn has been around boxing for years, promoting the likes of Katie Taylor and Canelo Alvarez. While he commends Paul for picking up the win, he thinks boxing fans didn’t learn a lot from watching Paul’s latest victory.
Eddie Hearn Issues Harsh Criticism Of Jake Paul’s Latest Win
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Hearn gave a less-than-impressed analysis of Paul vs. Diaz.
“It was awful, I’m watching that thinking ‘This is so bad’,” Hearn said. “The reason that Nate didn’t get stopped is because Jake doesn’t know how to break a fighter down, cut off the ring, beat him up, and stop him. But I give my props to Nate, super tough. But you’re talking about low, low level in terms of standard.”
Hearn and Paul have had their fair share of bad blood in recent years. Hearn and Matchroom Boxing sued Paul over remarks the YouTuber made about the judging of Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano last year.
Hearn has also been critical of Paul’s boxing talent; claiming that the social media influencer doesn’t have what it takes to face world-class talent. This has skyrocketed a war of words between the two sides.
Paul has yet to respond to Hearn’s latest remarks, although it could be a matter of time for their beef to ramp back up.
