Florence Pugh has had quite the year. From shutting down the Don’t Worry Darling drama by swapping press conferences for aperol spritzes, to securing a lead role in the next chapter of blockbuster sci-fi Dune, the 26-year-old has firmly proved she’s Hollywood’s Next Big Icon.
Another thing that’s elevated Miss Flo to global superstar status? Her otherworldly red carpet looks which have topped every best dressed list this year.

“Florence is enthusiastic about beautiful things,” said her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray, who also works with Gemma Chan, Lily James and Jenna Coleman, in a 2020 interview with British Vogue. “She has a unique way of looking at the world, and fashion is an extension of this.” At the time, Corbin-Murray described Pugh’s style as “bold, fearless, quirky, elegant”, which still rings true across her 2022 sartorial choices.

Most notably she’s proved herself the poster girl for this party season’s hottest trend: the naked dress. Whether it was her see-through co-ord skirt set that was covered in beaded detailing and sequins for her final day of Paris Fashion Week look, or the Victoria Beckham white sheer mesh gown with golden she sported for the 13th Governors Awards — the star hasn’t shied away from the ultra cool (and risqué) style du jour.

As for brands, Pugh has experimented with veteran evening wear brands like Rodarte, Galvan London and Erdem. However, this year she’s undoubtedly become synonymous with Valentino after wearing a knock-out slew of dresses from the luxury fashion house. Most recently, the Little Women actor attended the British Fashion Awards with the brand’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, where she presented him with the Designer of the Year award while wearing a stunning red frock by the fashion house. “Dripping with Valentino red from shoulders to beyond, a design by the man himself. Quite the pinch me moment.” She later wrote in an Instagram caption.

Pugh also donned a leading lady-worthy pink feathered Valentino dress for the premiere for her Netflix film The Wonder (“Unbelievable craftsmanship went into the making of this gown. Wearing @pppiccioli dresses are so easy, I step into his elegant designs and become alive,” she wrote on Instagram at the time). As well as the internet-breaking hot pink, sheer chiffon gown to the brand’s haute couture show back in June. Further cementing that she’s not only a Valentino girl, but a proponent of the viral aesthetic, Barbiecore.

“Pierpaolo Piccioli’s universe is so delicious and sumptuous. It’s a dreamscape of beauty,” said Corbin-Murray in an interview with British Vogue, adding that Pugh adores his frocks for their “personality” and “pure joy”.
And with roles in monster movies Dune 2, Oppenheimer and A Good Person in 2023, we can expect plenty more “pure joy” from Florence Pugh’s fashion next year.
