Former UFC Middleweight Volunteers Himself As Brendan Schaub's Potential Return Opponent
Former UFC middleweight Sam Alvey has thrown his name into the mix as a possible opponent for Brendan Schaub if he decides to return to fighting.
It’s been almost nine years since Schaub last competed in any form of combat sports. After being brutally knocked out in the first round by Travis Browne at UFC 181, the 40-year-old has settled into a successful career as a both a comedian and podcaster.
“Big Brown” recently floated the idea of making a comeback during a conversation with Jorge Masvidal, and the former UFC title challenger immediately began throwing out the names of various ex-UFC fighters that Schaub could take on in his Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion.
Alvey Proposes Matchup With Schaub
Alvey apparently got wind of the fact that Schaub is contemplating a return to fighting, and “Smile’n” says he’d be happy to take on the former UFC heavyweight in his preferred division.

“I’m willing to fight you,” Alvey said. “You want two things. You need heavyweight, you need retired. I’m willing to fight heavyweight. I’ll be the first to admit, I am not a true heavyweight. I’m willing to do it, I’ve never turned down a fight.”
Alvey joined the UFC roster in 2014 and had a lengthy career with the promotion. However, he is best known for the remarkable streak of results that preceded his eventual exit from the organization.
Starting with a loss to Antônio Rogério Nogueira in 2018, the 37-year-old went winless across nine fights before a knockout defeat to Michał Oleksiejczuk last year finally saw him leave the UFC.
Alvey did get back into the win column earlier this year when he defeated Cameron Graham in a heavyweight bout at B2 Fighting Series 183. If Schaub is serious about fighting again, maybe he’ll consider the former middleweight as a potential opponent.
