After weeks of speculation, the main event for UFC 293 is reported to be almost official, as Israel Adesanya is expected to put his middleweight title up for grabs against Sean Strickland.
Initially, it appeared that Adesanya was going to throw down against Dricus Du Plessis, after the two had an in-cage faceoff following the South African’s win over Robert Whittaker. However, when Du Plessis revealed that he was injured, the UFC was left scrambling to find a way to keep the Kiwi champion on the Australian bound UFC 293 card, with Strickland being the leading candidate.

As the weeks drew closer to UFC 293’s September 9th date, fans were waiting for an official confirmation that Israel Adesanya would be facing Sean Strickland. However, the American was reported to be facing visa issues that were causing a delay in the announcement.
Following rumors that the fight was heading in the right direction, it was reported by Spinnin Backfist that Adesanya vs Strickland was nearing official status. With some apparent minor details to be hammered out, they report that an official confirmation could be coming in the very near future.

By all accounts, it seems that this is the fight the UFC is looking to have in its main event for their return to Sydney, Australia. It is also important to remember, that while this fight is expected to take place in just five weeks, both Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland have started training already and will surely be in great shape come fight night.
