Leeds could ‘use connection’ to sign 'dangerous' £22m star at Elland Road
Leeds United could use their American contingent to help win the race for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie in the January transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Victor Orta oversaw the club’s summer business that resulted in more than £90 million being splashed on Jesse Marsch’s squad but further investment could soon be made.
What is the latest on McKennie?
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Leeds are monitoring and interested in signing McKennie either at the turn of the year or in the summer.
The reporter also says Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old, who has previously been described as ‘dangerous’ by Clint Dempsey.
Towards the end of Marcelo Bielsa’s reign at Elland Road, the club were said to be eager to move for McKennie moving forward, but a deal never materialised.
This season has seen the 34-cap USA international – who is currently worth £22 million – make 13 appearances for Juventus in all competitions and has become a mainstay at the Allianz Stadium.
If Leeds are to make a move, the Italian giants would remain in a strong bargaining position with his £37,000 per-week contract not set to expire until 2025.

What has O’Rourke said on a potential transfer?
O’Rourke believes that Leeds and Orta will try and use their current contingent of American stars to try and tempt McKennie to West Yorkshire.
As well as manager Marsch, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson have become regulars at Elland Road this season.
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure Leeds will try and use that American connection to try and help any deal to get over the line if they do pursue a move for McKennie.”

How have Leeds’ other Americans performed?
Both Adams and Aaronson have appeared in every Premier League match for Leeds so far this season and have quickly endeared themselves to their new fans.
In fact, the former is yet to miss a minute of action in the top flight this season and looks set to remain there for the foreseeable future.
However, Marsch has come under pressure in recent weeks after overseeing three consecutive defeats.
It is a run of results that has left them level on points with Wolverhampton Wanderers, who currently occupy the final place in the relegation zone.
