Liverpool fan with £100 quadruple bet rejected huge cash-out offers before Man City won PL

After Manchester City won the Premier League title on Sunday, spare a thought for the fan who refused to cash out her £100 bet on Liverpool to win the quadruple.

Liverpool supporter Tanya Hanley placed a £100 bet – her first ever bet, by the way – on Liverpool to win all four major trophies this season at odds of 3,671/1.

She stood to win a massive £367,200 if the Reds followed up their League Cup and FA Cup triumphs by lifting the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

“I just had a feeling that Liverpool could do it and that something big was going to happen,” Tanya told Betfair. “I had a wager with a friend on it, they had put a bet on it too, then I saw the odds that Betfair had for Liverpool to win all four trophies and I opened an account and placed my first ever bet.

“My family and friends are constantly asking me about it and checking if I’ve cashed out yet, but I don’t want to cash out. I wasn’t even bothered about knowing what the figure was as I just wanted to keep the bet going.

“It’s a big amount but I’m not swayed as I believe in them, they’ve come so far. It’s the closest anyone has ever been to winning the Quadruple, I really feel like they could do it.”

Betfair Spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom said: “We have been in contact with Tanya and she is aware of the Cash Out offer available to her. She is in total control and she knows that she can take the offer if she wishes to.

“We’ll be keeping in close contact with her through the day on Sunday to make sure that she is up-to-date with the latest Cash Out offer and we wish her good luck for the two key matches.”

Tanya refused a cash-out offer of £22,712 on Saturday. And on Sunday, with 30 minutes to go before kick-off, she turned down an even larger cash-out offer of £35k.

She even had the option of a partial cash-out offer, which would have seen her bank a cool £25k and a further £100k if Liverpool won the Premier League and Champions League. Again, she refused.

At half-time, Tanya’s incredibly brave tactics appeared to be paying off.

Liverpool were drawing 1-1 at home to Wolves, while Man City were losing 1-0 to Aston Villa.

She was offered a huge half-time cash-out offer of £62,371 but didn’t take it.

At 5:34pm, with 20 minutes left to play and Man City 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa, Tanya rejected her biggest cash-out offer yet: a staggering £95,000.

But it’s a decision that will surely haunt her for a long, long time.

Three goals in five minutes (two from Ilkay Gundogan and another from Rodri) turned the game at the Etihad on its head as Pep Guardiola’s City produced a remarkable comeback.

City went on to lift the Premier League trophy as Liverpool’s quadruple dream came crashing down.

At 6pm, Betfair tweeted the following message: “Tanya didn’t cash out.”

Oh no. Heartbreaking.

Even if Liverpool beat Real Madrid to win the Champions League this weekend, nobody could blame poor Tanya if she still felt absolutely sick at what happened.
