'Man Danced Into History' – MMA Fans Reacts To Sean Strickland's Upset Win Over Israel Adesanya At UFC 293
Newly minted UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland drew praise from around the sport after his monumental victory.
Strickland pulled off arguably the greatest upset in UFC history by defeating Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision at UFC 293 in Sydney. After entering the fight as a massive betting underdog, Strickland outpointed Adesanya from beginning to end and is now a world titleholder.
Strickland used technical boxing from start to finish, along with superb defensive movement, to frustrate Adesanya throughout the fight. He had Adesanya nearly finished in Round 1, but ended up staying the course en route to a decision.
When Strickland and Adesanya had their infamous banter at the UFC 276 pre-fight press conference, virtually no one predicted what was to come. The beginning of Strickland’s title reign is underway.

Strickland earned the title shot after back-to-back wins against Nassourdine Imavov and Abus Magomedov. He has now won three in a row since a brutal knockout loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 276.
Adesanya’s loss comes after reclaiming the middleweight throne by finishing Pereira at UFC 287 earlier this year. Before the loss to Pereira at UFC 281, he successfully defended the middleweight belt five times.
A wild night ‘down under’ was capped off by UFC history this weekend, and the parody of the main event is what makes MMA arguably the greatest sport in the world.
