Sean Brady Names Welterweight Contender He's Messaged Back & Forth Over December UFC Fight
It’s been a while since UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady last made the walk, but the Philadelphia native is honing in on a comeback.
Brady, who currently occupies the #9 spot at 170 pounds, hasn’t competed since suffering his first professional defeat in mixed martial arts last October in Abu Dhabi. At UFC 280, the 30-year-old was stopped via TKO in the second round by Belal Muhammad.
In addition to that result stalling his planned charge up the welterweight ladder, a series of health issues have prevented Brady from quickly rebounding and resuming his surge.
After two groin tears, the wrestling specialist most recently had a matchup with Jack Della Maddalena scrapped during International Fight Week after he was hospitalized with septic bursitis.
Having recovered and returned to training, Brady is once again focused on entering the cage before the end of 2023. And he’s even done some matchmaking himself behind the scenes.
Brady Targeting End Of Year Return, Reveals Possible Opponent
During a recent appearance on the Anik & Florian Podcast, Brady provided an update on his health and outlined his plans to compete again at the end of this year.
Although no opponent has been confirmed by the promotion, the Philadelphian appears to have mutual interest in squaring off against Vicente Luque. In fact, the pair even agreed to fight during a “respectful” private conversation on social media.
“It’s been a rough year, but it happens, you know?” Brady said. “It stinks, but I’m keeping my head up. I’m hoping to fight by the end of the year. I’m healthy and I’m just ready to get back to it… ready to get back to my winning ways.
“This division, I really don’t know what’s going on. Me and Vicente Luque have been DMing back and forth. We’ve both agreed to fight,” Brady continued. “I want to fight in November at the MSG card. He said, ‘Listen, give me a little bit more time. I just fought RDA. You wanna fight in December?’ Super respectful. We both said yeah. So I have no idea what’s going on. At this point I’m just training. Whatever they bring to me, I’ll be ready.”
Like Brady, Luque is also without a dance partner for his next outing. The #10-ranked contender successfully returned from a one-year layoff last month in a UFC Fight Night main event against ex-lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
Should their matchup come to fruition, Brady will be hoping to return to the winner’s circle by stalling Luque’s planned resurgence in its tracks.
