Stipe Miocic Explains Why He's Fighting Jon Jones At UFC 295 Despite Being Considered HW GOAT

Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic isn’t worried about legacy ahead of his highly anticipated Octagon return.

Miocic will face UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones in the UFC 295 main event on November 11. He returns to fight at Madison Square Garden after losing the belt to Francis Ngannou in their UFC 260 title rematch.

Despite being considered almost unanimously as the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, Miocic is willing to return for at least one more fight in the cage. He’s coming back for arguably his toughest test in Jones, who many feel is the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

As he ramps up his training camp for UFC 295, Miocic is laser-focused on competition and not the risks that come with returning for an opponent of Jones’ caliber.

Miocic Details Why He’s Decided To Return From Long Layoff

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Miocic explained why he’s taking a potential legacy risk at UFC 295.

“There’s a lot of reasons why,” Miocic said. “I want to fight the best, and I’m a competitor. I love fighting, I love to compete…my last fight didn’t go as well as I planned it to, and now is a time to bounce back and get that win.”

Before the loss to Ngannou, Miocic earned back-to-back wins over UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier in their trilogy. After a successful title defense against Ciryl Gane, Ngannou went on to part ways with the UFC, leading to Jones winning the vacant title at UFC 285.

Miocic holds the record for most finishes, knockouts, and consecutive title defenses in UFC heavyweight championship history. His first reign began when he knocked out Fabrício Werdum with one punch at UFC 198 in Brazil.

Miocic will likely join Cormier and other heavyweight legends in the UFC Hall of Fame one day. But for now, he’s focused on adding to his incredible tenure inside the Octagon.
