'That Ref Needs To Go' — Twitter Goes Rabid After William Gomis Scores Controversial Low Blow Stoppage Over Yanis Ghemmouri At UFC Paris

The UFC’s return to Paris saw controversy in the bout between William Gomis and Yanis Ghemmouri. Now fans are calling for a referee to lose his job.

Gomis was having a good night in his main card bout against Ghemmouri, at UFC Fight Night: Gane vs Spivac, as he looked to add to his nine-fight winning streak. He was landing more significant strikes than his opponent, nearly locking up a couple of submissions along the way as well.

William Gomis vs Yanis Ghemmouri Ends In Controversy

Unfortunately, the ending of this fight would not be clean, as William Gomis landed a kick on Yanis Ghemmouri, which Ghemmouri claims landed low. However, the referee did not agree that the kick was foul, telling Ghemmouri to continue fighting, and waving off the contest when Ghemmouri continued to complain about the kick landing on his cup.

Despite officials reviewing the footage, the bout was still declared a TKO win for Gomis, a decision that many did not agree with. Fans took to Twitter, going off about how poor of a stoppage they felt this was, questioning the decision for the referee to call off the contest in the fashion he did, and suggesting he lose his job.

According to the official scorecards, William Gomis was on his way to winning a unanimous decision against Yanis Ghemmouri after unanimously winning the first two rounds. Regardless, this is certainly not the way he would have liked to earn the win.
