Haas driver Mick Schumacher has said that the difference between the car in winter testing and now in Barcelona is ‘huge’ with him delighted by the progress the team has made.
The team had a tough 2021 campaign with them opting to focus fully on this year’s car rather than developing last season’s but it appears as though that decision has paid off.
Indeed, the team already has points on the board via Kevin Magnussen, whilst Schumacher almost broke his duck points-wise in F1 last time out in Miami before Sebastian Vettel and he collided in the final stages.
Even so, both drivers are enjoying their time inside the VF-22 and, despite the team not bringing any upgrades to the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend – and bucking the paddock-wide trend in doing so – Mick is pleased with the overall progress the team has made since winter testing.
“The difference is huge,” Schumacher said to Give Me Sport’s George Dagless among the media on Friday.
“Especially compared to the beginning of the year where everybody was struggling with bouncing so everybody took performance out of the cars to reduce it.
“But now coming here actually we have put a lot of performance back into the car and it feels like a totally different race track and a different car so happy to have the comparison and see that we’ve come a long way from testing.”
Managed to get a word in with Mick Schumacher. Says though Haas have no upgrades this weekend the overall development of the car this season has been huge, he’s looking forward to quali tomorrow #F1 #SpanishGP pic.twitter.com/h9rsrZAPwa

Schumacher finished FP2 in 10th place on Friday and that will give him optimism that a bright qualifying session is around the corner later this afternoon at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Certainly, he’s been looking really at home in the last few races at the wheel of the VF-22 and hopefully for him it won’t be long until he gets those elusive championship points on the board.
