U.S. Senator & Former MMA Fighter Challenges Witness To A Fight During Senate Hearing

In our currently hostile political climate in the United States, the divide is palpable almost daily.

One U.S. senator took things a step further with his disgust at one witness during an economics hearing on Capital Hill.

U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (OK) used his questioning of Teamsters President Sean O’Brien to address recent comments made by O’Brien about him. They had a heated exchange back in March during a separate hearing, in which O’Brien questioned Mullin’s business background.

Things turned personal quickly in recent months. O’Brien went on to post on ‘X’ that Mullin is a ‘clown, greedy CEO, and a fraud’. This prompted a heated response from Mullin when the two came face-to-face in the nation’s capital.

Mullin fought in three professional MMA bouts before retiring from athletics in 2007. He went 3-0 in his brief MMA career with Xtreme Fight Night, a regional promotion headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mullin won a U.S. Senate seat when Senator Jim Inhofe announced his resignation last year. He is also a former U.S. state representative, holding office from 2013-2022.

Mullin’s animosity with O’Brien nearly turned from verbal to physical, and it’s uncertain if he’ll be punished for the blowup. Regardless, his next appearance at the next U.S. Senate hearing on economics could be eventful.
