Vicente Luque Leaves Out Colby Covington From His List Of Top 10 Current UFC Welterweights

Vicente Luque recently put together a list of what he considers to be the Top 10 welterweights in the UFC, and the Brazilian notably decided to leave out Colby Covington.

“The Silent Assassin” currently occupies the #10 spot in the UFC’s welterweight rankings after suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in his career, but he’s set to try and snap that skid when he meets Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card this weekend.

Luque hasn’t challenged for a title himself but has been a staple of the UFC’s welterweight rankings throughout his time with the promotion, and when asked by Shakiel Mahjouri (Shak MMA) to make his own welterweight Top 10 the 31-year-old unsurprisingly started with Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman.

Former interim welterweight champion Covington currently occupies the #2-spot in the official UFC rankings, but Luque named Belal Muhammad as the division’s top contender after Usman and proceeded to leave “Chaos” off the list altogether.

Covington’s current spot in the UFC rankings is admittedly a bit surprising considering he’s 2-2 over his last four bouts and hasn’t fought in almost a year and a half at this point, but the promotion also still seems committed to the idea that the 35-year-old will be the next fighter to challenge Edwards for the welterweight title.

One other notable name that Luque left off his list was #4-ranked Khamzat Chimaev, however “Borz” badly missed weight for his last welterweight bout and will likely be bumped from the division’s official rankings as soon as he meets Paulo Costa in a middleweight fight at UFC 294.

Luque was also knocked out by Geoff Neal in his last fight but placed himself above “Handz of Steel” in his personal rankings, and perhaps if the 31-year-old comes out on top against dos Anjos he could set up a rematch with Neal after the latter fighter pulled out of his matchup at next weekend’s UFC 292.
