West Ham: David Moyes has £59m duo 'on the radar' at London Stadium

West Ham United still have Sven Botman ‘on their radar’ while they are ‘also going to enquire’ about Nathan Ake, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Hammers are believed to be in the market for a new centre-back with the summer transfer window set to open in just under a months’ time.

What is the latest news involving West Ham?

According to the Evening Standard, West Ham are ‘tracking’ Botman as manager David Moyes plots an overhaul of his ageing backline, although securing his signature won’t be easy.

Newcastle United were heavily linked with the 22-year-old throughout January and Serie A giants AC Milan are also reportedly eager to prise him away from LOSC Lille.

Meanwhile, EuroSport claimed West Ham were eager to snap up Ake from Manchester City during the winter window, and the Dutch international is said to have been keen to make the switch.

But a formal offer for the 27-year-old failed to materialise and he ended up staying put at the Etihad Stadium for the remainder of the campaign.

Now though, The Times have revealed that West Ham are contemplating reviving their interest in Ake, who is valued at £25m by CIES Football Observatory, ahead of next season.

What has Jones said about Botman and Ake?

Jones has disclosed how West Ham are not ‘hopeful’ of signing Burnley defender James Tarkowski, but Botman and Ake are on an extensive list of targets.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think Sven Botman is somebody that’s still on their radar, and they’re also going to enquire about Nathan Ake in the summer as well at Man City to see whether he might be available.

“But there’s five or six other players too that West Ham are looking at for that position. But Tarkowski, they’re not hopeful on.”

What is West Ham’s current centre-back situation?

West Ham have been short of options in the heart of defence ever since Angelo Ogbonna suffered a season-ending ACL injury back in November.

Ogbonna is also set to turn 34 later this month and fellow centre-back Craig Dawson is also in the twilight of his career.

Moyes has been able to call upon the services of French duo Kurt Zouma and Issa Diop, but with European football set to return to the London Stadium next term, West Ham could surely do with additional reinforcements.

As a result, Botman, who is valued at £34m by CIES Football Observatory, or Ake would likely be welcome additions when the market reopens for business.
